Silmid and AeroShell help fire the Skymaster into life

What is the Douglas C54 Skymaster

Seeing action in World War II, Korea and Vietnam the Skymaster was known as the Mercy ship of the skies. She would bring much needed whole blood and supplies to the front line and then take the wounded soldiers back to receive care. Douglas C54 Skymaster 56498, the last remaining Skymaster in all of Europe was a beacon of hope in the past and is still one today.

The team behind the restoration

Save the Skymaster is a fantastic organisation with a goal to preserve, protect and conserve C-54 Skymaster 56498. They aim to restore her to working order for the public benefit, and to demonstrate and display her to the public.

Silmid and AeroShell recently worked together to donate 416ltrs (2 x 55USG Drums) of AeroShell W100 Piston Engine Oil to Save the Skymaster for their recent engine runs. Two members of the Silmid team - Olivia Martin-Johnson and Charlotte Smith - were on hand to witness this monumentous occasion.

Find out more about Save the Skymaster, listen to the engines come to life and don't forget to turn up your volume!
