Low strength threadlockers are typically applied to adjustment screws, calibration screws, meters, and gauges, which undergo frequent disassembly and can be removed using hand tools.
Medium strength threadlockers are suitable for machine tools, presses, pumps, compressors, mounting bolts, and gearboxes, where disassembly occurs with normal frequency and can be done using hand tools.
High strength threadlockers are employed in more permanent assemblies such as heavy equipment, suspension bolts, motor and pump mounts, cap bolts, and studs. These applications rarely require disassembly and may require localised heat for effective removal.

This paper studies the performance of a selection of Loctite Anaerobic Threadlockers on GEOMET zinc flake coated fasteners and demonstrates how this type of anti-corrosion coating differs from traditional metal substrates, and what this means for anaerobic adhesive products.
In particular, the performance of two new anaerobic threadlocking products, Loctite 2400 (medium strength) and Loctite 2700 (high strength), is examined. These new grades have excellent health and safety labelling and have been specifically designed for optimum cure on zinc flake coated fasteners.
