MIL-C-6529

MIL-C-6529 is a military specification (MIL-SPEC) established by the U.S. Department of Defense. This spec covers preservative compounds used as corrosion inhibitors for aircraft engines and components. These compounds are primarily used in aerospace applications to protect metal surfaces from corrosion during storage or idle periods. They are typically designed to protect from moisture, environmental conditions and other factors. They function as oil-based corrosion inhibitors, which leave a thin protective film on surfaces to prevent oxidation and rust formation. The first version of this spec, MIL-C-6529a was established in April 1953. The most recent version is MIL-C-6529c.

Versions

MIL-C-6529c Is the most recent version of the spec where MIL = Military, C = Corrosion Preventative (product category), 6529 = Unique Identification Number, c = Version. This version was established in August 1958. There was an amendment in September 1959, then 3 further notices in 1986, 1997 and 2018.

Types

Type 1 - Concentrate material

Type 2 - Ready mixed material for recipricating aircraft engines

Type 3 - Ready mixed material for turbojet aircraft engines which use specification MIL-O-6081 lubricating oil

Key Features

  • Purpose: The compounds conforming to the MIL-C-6529 spec are designed to provide a protective film over surfaces, displace moisture and offer long-term corrosion resistance in various environmental conditions.

  • Ease of Removal: Allows for cleaning and removal without causing damage to components or leaving residue.

  • Applications: Used in Long-term Storage, protecting components stored in humid or corrosive environments. Marine and Military Equipment, protecting metallic parts exposed to saline atmospheres. Aerospace maintenance preserving aircraft engines and parts during periods of inactivity.
