MIL-PRF-22750

MIL-PRF-22750 is a military specification that defines the requirements for two part, high-performance epoxy coatings used on military equipment, particularly aircraft and vehicles. They are designed to be environmentally friendly with a low volatile organic compound (VOC) content (maximum VOC content of 340 grams/liter (g/l) (2.8 pounds/gallon (lbs/gal))). Coatings are designed to provide excellent protection against harsh environmental conditions, corrosion, chemicals and abrasion. Coatings conforming to this specification are supplied as a kit and can be high gloss, semi gloss or lusterless.

MIL-PRF-22750 Product List

Key features of MIL-PRF-22750

High solids content: This means that the coating contains a high percentage of solids, resulting in a thicker, more durable coating with fewer coats required.

Colours: Available in a wide variety of colours, not limited by the spec. Colour designator FED-STD-595 colour chip number is used

Low VOC content:
This makes the coating environmentally friendly and reduces harmful emissions.

Excellent adhesion: The coating adheres well to a variety of surfaces, including metal, composite materials, and wood.

Resistance to chemicals and solvents: The coating is resistant to a wide range of chemicals and solvents, making it ideal for use in harsh environments.

Weather resistance: The coating is resistant to weathering, including UV radiation, temperature extremes and moisture.

Versions

MIL-PRF-22750G Is the most recent version of the spec where MIL = Military, PRF = Performance Specification, 22750 = Unique identification number, G = Version.

MIL-PRF-22750F Revision F was established in May 1994. This was superceded by G in September 2011 with a further amendment in April 2014.

MIL-C-22750E Was established in July 1989, where C = Coating. This superceeded version D, established in Nov 1980.

Types

Type I: Standard formulation with a maximumVOC content of 340 grams/liter (g/l) (2.8 pounds/gallon (lbs/gal)) as packaged.

Type II: Volatile organic hazardous air pollutants-free (VOHAP-free) formulation to meet the same maximum VOC content as Type I.

Type III: Direct to metal, VOHAP-free formulation to meet the same maximum VOC content as Type I. As a direct to metal, this coating will have enhanced corrosion performance including 1,000 hours salt spray and 40 cycles on the cyclic corrosion test. This type is only available in semi-gloss and lusterless colours.

Type IV: Self contained portable kits to include, but not limited to, brush, roller and cartridge application. The kits contain the type II or III epoxy coating.

Classes

Class H: High solids, solvent-based formulation.

Class W: Water-based formulation.

Grades

Grade A: For Navy and Army equipment requiring weather resistance. Grade A approved products can also be used as a Grade B material.

Grade B: For the interior of tactical equipment not requiring weather resistance.
